Howard M. Sandler, M.D. - President and Founder
 

Dr. Sandler has a long and distinguished career in regulation, health care delivery systems, research and problem solving in occupational and environmental health. Dr. Sandler founded Sandler Occupational Medicine Associates, Inc. (SOMA) as a response to business’, labor’s and government’s need for quality, service-oriented approaches to address the many scientific, programmatic and regulatory issues across a broad range of problems in occupational and environmental health. Dr. Sandler has served as a Medical Officer with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). He has also consulted extensively with the EPA, OSHA, NIOSH and the Consumer Products Safety Commission, as well as state and local governmental agencies.

Richard S. Blume, M.D., MPH, FACPM - Occupational Health Physician
 

 

Dr. Richard S. Blume is a residency-trained, board-certified specialist in occupational and environmental medicine. He holds degrees in medicine, public health and engineering. He has practiced at Sandler Occupational Medicine Associates (SOMA) in this specialty and has held a variety of titles since 1991. He is licensed to practice medicine in New York State, and operates from SOMA’s New York area office. He is a fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, and a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Blume received his postgraduate training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and served as a military medical officer prior to obtaining his residency in occupational medicine. He has experience in a broad range of areas pertaining to occupational and environmental health including: clinical occupational medicine, toxicology, regulatory compliance, medical standards development, workplace infectious disease protocol development/management, epidemiology, risk assessment, medical record review and analysis, and medical case management.

Dennis C. Ertel, Jr., CIH, CSP, REM - Chief Operating Officer

 

Dennis C. Ertel, Jr., CIH, CSP, REM, was appointed the Chief Operating Officer of Sandler Occupational Medicine Associates (SOMA) in June 2006. Prior to that assignment, he was the Director of SOMA’s Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology Division, since August 2000. Mr. Ertel is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with over 24 years experience in evaluating and controlling a wide range of health hazards in the workplace. Mr. Ertel operates from SOMA’s Washington DC Area office and manages industrial hygiene projects and programs, performs training, research, and general consultation for environmental, health and safety issues. His technical projects with SOMA include industrial hygiene consulting, safety audits, indoor air quality projects, microbiological contamination evaluations, exposure modeling projects, risk assessments and research for or various clients including, but not limited to governmental facilities, legal firms, commercial office space, residential construction, health care facilities, manufacturing facilities, laboratory facilities, refineries, power generation facilities and mines and quarries.

Anish K. Ranpuria, MPH, CIH, COHC - Director of Business Development

 

Anish K. Ranpuria, MPH, CIH, COHC is Sandler Occupational Medicine Associates, Inc. (SOMA) Director of Business Development. Mr. Ranpuria is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with years of experience in recognizing, evaluating and controlling a wide range of health hazards in the workplace. Mr. Ranpuria operates from SOMA’s Virginia office and supports industrial hygiene projects and programs, occupational health programs, performs training, research, and general consultation for occupational, health and safety issues internationally. His industrial hygiene experience includes exposure monitoring for a variety of physical and chemical hazards, risk reduction safety audits, indoor air quality projects, microbiological contamination evaluations, emergency response evaluations, guidance on local and federal regulations, literature reviews, and technical consultation for various clients. His occupational health experience includes management and administration of nationwide medical surveillance programs, hearing conservation programs, and policy development.  Mr. Ranpuria is also a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist.

Priya Nagarajan, MEng, CIH - Director of Industrial Hygiene

 

Ms. Priya Nagarajan joined Sandler Occupational Medicine Associates (SOMA) in January 2003 as an Industrial Hygienist and was appointed Director, Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology Division in June 2006 to manage the industrial hygiene projects and programs for SOMA. Ms. Nagarajan is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with over 14 years of experience in recognizing, evaluating and controlling employees’ exposures to health hazards at their workplace. She has worked on multiple projects including exposure assessments, indoor air quality projects, exposure modeling projects, developing Safety Data Sheets, hazards management, chemical safety training, quantitative risk assessments and research for various clients including, but not limited to, regulatory agencies, legal firms, commercial and residential facilities, health care facilities, power plants, small and large-scale industries and, mines and quarries.

Carol Woodruff - Business Development

 
Carol Woodruff has over 30 years of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health experience. Carol spent many years working extensively with federal, state and local government agencies, large manufacturers, and with the commercial and private sectors. After completing her degree in Environmental Sciences, she started as a laboratory technician for American Medical Laboratories, Inc. (AML) working in the Toxicology Department analyzing samples for substances of abuse. Later, as a Senior Chemist in the industrial hygiene laboratory, she analyzed samples for pesticides, volatile organics, asbestos content and heavy and trace metals. She left AML to work as a Field Industrial Hygienist with a consulting firm. Her responsibilities included the site inspection of work procedures, worker safety and air monitoring at a variety of work sites.
