Utilities Experience

Over the years, SOMA has acted as corporate medical advisor to many utility companies, assisting with developing and managing occupational health exams and random testing, assisting with management of workplace injuries, addressing occupational disease issues, and developing, executing and managing medical screening and respirator clearance programs. SOMA has also provided industrial hygiene services such as sampling strategy development, on-site exposure assessment including collecting air samples for respirable particulates/respirable crystalline silica, heavy metals, coal dust and monitoring for noise, development of safety data sheets and employee training regarding IH subjects.

In multiple instances, SOMA has assisted utility companies with industrial hygiene survey and associated occupational health evaluations with regard to electromagnetic field (EMF) surveys, related to the electrical and magnetic fields associated with electrical transmission equipment, for potential impact on personal medical devices. SOMA had also collaborated with large energy and utility companies to develop job-specific essential job function/medical standard documents, including for mining, power, nuclear, and corporate operations. The medical standard documents prepared provide essential job function descriptions and accompanying medical requirements for safe job placement and fitness for duty determination.
